Do you have a web based system to access email?

Yes. If you have an account with us you can access your email with any broswer by going to webmail.avantihosting.com.au.

Please be aware that any emails you delete through the web based system will be deleted for good and you won't be able to later retrieve that email by using your email software.

How do I set-up Outlook to send emails through my mailserver?

You need to make the following changes to your outgoing mail erver settings:

Change the outgoing mail server name to: mail.{your domain name}
Tick the box 'My server requires authentication'
The user name and password is the same as for the incoming mail server
Under advanced setting change the "Outgoing mail (SMTP)" port rom 25 to 587.

Using these settings for the outgoing mail on all your accounts will mean that any email that is sent from any of your accounts is bypassing the greylisting system and is not delayed by our mailserver.

How many aliases can I have for each mailbox?

We allow a virtually unlimited number (within reason) of email aliases for each mailbox, whether they be forwarded or not.

What is the difference between email forwarding and an alias?

The big difference between an email forwarder and an email alias is that an email forward can forward email to any email address on the Internet, especially to an email address that is at another domain name. E.g. This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it forwards email to This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

An alias can only 'forward' email to an email box on the same domain as the alias is. E.g. This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it can go to This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it but This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it cannot be set up to forward email to This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

A forwarder is also actually accepting email and actively sending the email on to the destination address.

An alias is only like an additional door into a room (email account).

Why are some emails taking a long time to arrive in my Inbox?

This is most probably a side effect of the greylisting we have introduced.
Some emails may take several hours to get through the greylist system.
The reason for that is that Bigpond for example is using multiple email servers to end email, and that when Bigpond retry to send an email that our ailserver greylisted for 15 minutes, Bigpond quite likely is trying to end the email from an email server on a different IP address. This is onfusing the greylist system into thinking that it actually has not een this attempted email delivery yet and it grey lists the email again or another 15 minutes.

The emails finally get through when Bigpond re-sends the email from an mail server on an IP address that the greylist system has seen in the ast 24 hours.

If this delay is unacceptable to you, please contact us and ask us to remove your email address (can be an individual email address or all your email addresses) from the grey listing system.

Please be aware though, that this will probably mean that you'll see a significant increase in the amount of spam you receve.
